André: 1) the method which you suggested will break some symlinks created by the packages in Ubuntu. Be careful. 2) proprietary drivers are not loaded by default unless specified in the xorg.conf 3) without a log or further information on your system (you will have to reproduce the problem) I'm afraid I can't help you. 4) this is not the right place to report your problem.
