Sorry, I do not agree. After installing the ubuntu version of apache2 everything under /var/www/ is exposed to the public. It is not true that the apache2 config of debian sarge does the same. It contains one important line that makes a big difference, namely "RedirectMatch ^/$ /apache2-default/".
