We can do both, depending on what the sponsor prefers I think. The reason I said to use the .dsc was also to make sure that the timestamp on the changelog matches the one of the uploaded package, and having that is the easier way. But indeed, if I'd push that commit too (as I normally did), the sponsor then can proceed with tagging only.
