Regarding https://launchpad.net/bugs/39321 with upstream https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3188:
The patches available constitute a huge improvement on the current (atrocious, my opinion) state of text selection in poppler/evince, but the patches are not committed upstream and it seems they might be planning on taking a while, making a separate API for it (ref. http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/poppler/2009-December/005386.html). However I still think that the patches are important enough to go in, what is the policy on that?
