Hi, I never had good results installing Microsoft Office with wine. However, VirtualBox has this seamless mode which is as close as you can get from a "native" experience. It plays nice with compiz most of the time, but it has a few rough edges. Try it out.
Ah, and if your boss obliges you to use Microsoft Word, you should try to convince him that producing Microsoft Word documents with LibreOffice is functionally equivalent, but without the license fee.
