Hi Folks,

First time jumping on the devel discuss list here.

More and more people are coming to Linux (Ubuntu) for gaming. Including myself.
And we are seeing some really novel things come about from all this.

But there is one thing that has been a constant frustration for gamers on
Ubuntu, and that is mouse acceleration. Many years ago (8.04? I can't recall
exactly when), we used to have a nice GUI way to disable/adjust mouse
acceleration in Unity, but that was removed for... reasons that I don't know.

Certainly, we aren't using Unity by default any more, but gnome doesn't have it
either! (at least from what I have seen, out of the box).

I propose that out of the box Ubuntu should have GUI controls to adjust and
turn off mouse acceleration system-wide. Naturally, in the mouse section of
settings.

As it stands now, gamers need to make scripts to run each time they log in, to
disable mouse acceleration. While this may work for some, for the majority, it
is cumbersome and actually unreliable. In addition to that, I anticipate a GUI
control for mouse acceleration to be trivial to implement.

So what do you guys think? Can we make it just a touch easier for gamers to get
into Ubuntu?

Thanks,
BloodyIron
