It looks like strigi is in main, yet only seeded into kubuntu. So if it was to be demoted to universe it could gain additional build-deps required to enable full ffmpeg support. alsa-plugins are also in main. It build-depeds on libav to build libasound2-plugins-extra binary package, which in turn is in universe. So to move libav unsplit into universe, we'd need to split alsa-plugins package into main & universe. Somehow split alsa-plugins sounds better than split libav. But libasound2-plugins-extra actually has no reverse-dependencies. So maybe we can just drop it? How about the following plan then: * unsplit libav & move to universe * strigi add extra libav build-deps & move to universe * drop libasound2-plugins-extra package (thus dropping a52 and lavcrate plugins from the archive) If anybody cares about a52 & lavcrate alsa-plugins, they are welcome to reupload alsa-plugins source package under a split-name into universe which will then just build a52 and lavcrate plugins into a "libasound2-plugins-extra" package.
