Don Thompson proposed the following answer: On the 8.04.1 distribution there is a conflict between 2 scripts for the WiFi interface. The choice is to delete /etc/acpi/eeepc-wireless- toggle.sh or /etc/acpi/eee-wifi-on-off.sh.
