the netbook remix isn't a eee-specific set of applications, and you need to
manually configure your setup if you manage to screw up the layout.
first: you need to add a top panel.
then, follow these instructions to set up the layout:

under the header "installation"
"* Setup top panel like:
GoHomeApplet|WindowPickerApplet|NotificationArea|MixerApplet|Clock"
