Status in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
PROBLEM:

Ubuntu hangs at shutdown and doesn't power off.

REMARKS:

- At shutdown, the following message appears:
NetworkManager: <WARN> nm_hal_deinit(): libhal shutdown failed - connection is
closed

- Some suspicious messages from dmesg:
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC880, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
hda_codec: Cannot set up configuration from BIOS. Using 3-stack mode...
apm: disabled - APM is not SMP safe.

- To use the command "sudo rmmod -w snd_hda_intel" solves the problem and the
computer power off. Furthermore, the network warning does not appear. To use
the switch "-f" does not unload the module.

- The system does not hibernate when using pidgin and, sometimes, firefox and
it never suspends.

CONCLUSION

There is no conclusion since the source of the problem is not clear. It could
be the sound driver, the network driver, the energy management or whatever
else. This bug has been largely reported and confirmed (since 6.06), but never
solved, I don't know why.
