You have been subscribed to a public bug:
When resizeing an existing ext3 partition via manual partiton editor in
the Jaunty Alpha 4 Desktop cd (amd64) no dialog appears giving status
information or even telling you what it's doing. You are simply not able
to click anything to affect anything. Eventually the pertiton does come
up resized and you are onece again able to control whats going on and
the buttons have affect again.
However when you follow a similar process with and intrepid cd you get a
diolog appear with a message saying "resizeing partion" and a progress
bar.
