The default user created in Ubuntu is a sudoer i.e. he has administrator privileges provided the command being executed is prefixed with 'sudo' ex. sudo mount <mount_options>. When prompted for password enter the password of the user "xyz". In case you do not want to use command line, use menu System -> Administration -> Users and Groups when logged in to GUI.
