I think you are probably asking wrong questions. But without much details of what you are trying to run it is difficult to give advice. Here is what I figure out. You are probably trying to run some ide which requires JDK so you need to install openjdk-7-jdk package using synaptic or some other package manager. This will also install java runtime. The other software you are trying to run requires either java runtime or java plugin (search icedtea in synaptic).
You can probably run different softwares on different version of java by setting up correct environment variables. I have never tried it myself.
