Also, what stepping of the psb is this?  What version of alsa?

Download and run
http://hg.alsa-project.org/alsa/raw-file/tip/alsa-info.sh and post the
pastebin link it generates.  It's possible the jumpers on your Mott
Canyon are set wrong.
