As most of you are probably aware, one of the goals for the Karmic cycle
is to continue the trend of reducing the time it takes to boot the
system. A lot of progress has already been made in this area for
Jaunty, but in order to ensure that it continues to be improved, I
believe it would be beneficial to measure it throughout the alpha and
beta releases leading up to Karmic Koala.

If you have a netbook that you don't mind installing prereleases on, and
are willing to help with this, what I'm looking for is very simple.
Just install Ubuntu Netbook Remix alpha and beta releases as they come
out, install bootchart, and post your result at on the wiki page [1] for
it. That wiki page also has instructions for installing bootchart and
gathering the results. This is a *very* simple test and doesn't take
very long. All it takes is a single apt-get and a system reboot -
that's it. This testing is especially beneficial if you can perform it
on the same hardware through all or most of the pre-release milestones.

If you are doing this, and have time for just a little more testing, we
would also very much appreciate your help with verifying the releases
work. All it takes is just a few extra minutes of testing at each
milestone release, and reporting the results on the iso tracker website [2].

Thanks a lot!
Paul Larson
