I agree that the videobackground.png file is better left out as it is.
If it was possible to have an animated spinner, that might be better.
I don't much like the sliding panes either, from an aesthetic point of
view. They just seem to be "too much" to me, sliding it from all over
the place it seems. I don't mind a bit of animation, but I think it
should be more subtle and classy.
Cheers,
John

I've just committed these to 25.25 and 26.9, which should be available
in the next few hours. I've commented out the videobackground.png file
as I don't really like it (it's static, and I'm not really for
replacing one static image with another. It also doesn't fill my
screen, so looks kinda janky). I'm also not 100% sold on the sliding
panes, as it doesn't appear to have everything slide into place (for
instance, on the schedule guide, the backgrounds slide into place but
the actual show content doesn't slide anywhere so that looks odd).
Thanks,

CHANGELOG
General:
* Animation added to various windows. The three panes of Watch
Recordings slide into place from different directions. Other main
windows drop down; popups and menus pop out from the center.
base.xml:
* An old-style "film countdown" .png image, taken from the Terra
theme, now appears before playing recordings and videos. The
attached videobackground.png should be placed in the theme
directory.
* Metadata thumbnails are slightly larger.
netvision-ui.xml:
* Copied without modification from the default-wide theme to permit
theme-specific changes.
osd.xml:
* Extraneous starttime and endtime text no longer appears when playing
a video.
* Cover art aspect ratio is now preserved.
recordings-ui.xml:
* Extensive modifications to Watch Recordings, as discussed with
Thomas Mashos and incorporating his suggestions. If available, cover
art now takes the place of the group pane when the recording pane is
focused, and is much larger so is actually legible from across the
room. Both panes are enlarged to show 11 entries versus the current
nine. Full channel names are now displayed. The banner is no longer
displayed because 1) it's almost always redundant with the cover art
and 2) while almost all recordings have fan art and cover art,
movies don't have banners. The preview image is moved to the left
under the cover art, and a gray background appears behind 4:3 images
to produce a pillarbox-like effect.
Watch Recordings also returns to the older two-cursor paradigm with
highlighting only on the focused cursor, albeit with improved
consistency so that two cursors are always on the screen.
(NB - This is a patch to
recordings-ui.xml. recordings-ui.xml.nobanner is superseded.)
schedule-ui.xml:
* A note informing users of the existence of a second page has been
added to Program Details.
