That's a quote from Lintian that was accurate at the time it was written. The dpkg developers have since abandoned the goal of switching the default, so the text as written is incorrect.
I'd say something like "If you choose to use source format 1.0 you may make this explicit in debian/source. Lintian will warn about implicit format 1.0 (leaving debian/source undefined), but this warning may be ignored." Lintian needs updating and we shouldn't parrot it's obsolete advice in the meantime. I'll file a bug on Lintian (in Debian) if there isn't one already. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Packaging Guide Team, which is subscribed to Ubuntu Packaging Guide. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/792386 Title: Source Format Discussion Inaccurate Status in Ubuntu Packaging Guide: New Bug description: http://people.canonical.com/~dholbach/packaging-guide/html/debian-dir- overview.html It says: "If for some reason, you wish to keep using the old format, please create this file and put 1.0 in it to be explicit about the source package version. This allows for the future removal of the 1.0 default for the package source format." The dpkg maintainers have explicitly abandoned the goal of switching the default so this rationale is obsolete. It's not clear there is any reason to add source/format with 1.0 since it will behave the same as none at all. Recommend that this be deleted. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-packaging-guide-team Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-packaging-guide-team More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
