It sounds like Mir is having trouble with the particular video hardware.  Would 
it be possible to retrieve the file
/var/log/lightdm/unity-system-compositor.log from the failing system?  That 
file may have valuable diagnostics.

This is a good place.  You can also report general bugs against the 
unity8-desktop-session project in Ubuntu [1] and
they will get redirected to a more appropriate place if necessary.
