Hello TB,

Successful developments have been made. Ubuntu Cinnamon images have been
produced for the past week, and the needed changes to livecd-rootfs and
ubuntu-cdimage are mostly complete. Testcases are being made for the QA
tracker. Additionally, our packages are now in the official archive, our seed
is good, and we are in good shape for 23.04.

If 23.04 is not approved as an official flavor for Ubuntu Cinnamon, 24.04 will
not be an LTS release, as per the rules (2 non-LTS for 1 LTS).

I am requesting, as UI freeze approaches, and Beta will soon roll ahead, the
Technical Board’s approval for flavor status. After I send this email, I will
add this item to the Technical Board Agenda.

As a full-time student, I am busy, but I am okay with voting or discussion over
ML or IRC.

Thanks,
-Josh

Hello Technical Board,

I’m Joshua Peisach, the lead of the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix
(https://ubuntucinnamon.org, https://twitter.com/UbuntuCinnamon). For almost
three years now, the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix team have maintained Ubuntu Cinnamon
through seven releases since 19.10. We have also maintained the project through
contributing to security uploads relevant to Cinnamon (see caribou
CVE-2021-3567), and have been maintaining Cinnamon in Debian with Fabio Fantoni
and the Debian Cinnamon Team. (https://salsa.debian.org/cinnamon-team)

Considering the amount of time that has passed, the current relationship with
Ubuntu Cinnamon and the Ubuntu community, we are applying for official flavor
status, starting with our 23.04 “Lunar Lobster” release. (Proposal:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuCinnamon/23.04/Proposal)

We have many people on the team, along with several MOTUs. Other than myself,
fossfreedom has helped us with maintenance of the Nemo file manager, Jeremy
Bicha, Simon Quigley and Erich Eickmeyer are all MOTU’s for our uploads, and I
am also talking with Aaron Rainbolt as we both continue our Ubuntu journey
together. We also have worked with Phillipp and Monica from the Community Team,
all current existing leads (especially rs2009, Martin Wimpress and Rik Mills),
and work with the Yaru team towards maintaining Cinnamon theme support. There
is also Initu Castilhos, who has also helped with the ‘Cinnamon’ color variant
of the Yaru theme. There are plenty of developers and contributors that will
ensure Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix remains stable with high quality assurance.

I am looking forward towards the application process, and official flavor
status.
