Many thanks for the fast reply. I have a fresh installation, but already incorporated configuration changes and more packages from my old installation. As I now saw in a fresh virtual minimal apache2+php5+dbd installation that it works there. I will try to figure out what the trigger is and come back to you at the weekend.
