I have done that to try to fix another problem related to installing
mysql-server-5.6 after having installed (and subsequently removed)
mariadb 10.0. However, the removal of that directory was done after
removing the mysql-server package, so I was expecting that installing
the package again would re-create it. It seems to have done that as I
can see that directory in my system, however this error is still
present.

What are the consequences of manually removing this directory?
