would have been nice to see this backported to karmic

i have several machines that hang at boot due to nmbd and smbd pid file
missing issues ... i have to "ctrl-alt-delete" and  restart and repeat
this loop until the machine finally boots in

i was at first just seeing it with nmbd ... so i did "disable netbios =
yes" ... but then saw it with smbd pid file missing

i have a static ip set up in on my 1 network card
