Public bug reported: libsnmp-base is installed by default (required by hplip, which ubuntu- desktop recommends) and depends on gawk. But the base system already has an awk implementation (mawk) and nowhere in this package is gawk specifically required - only generic "awk" is ever used. (Actually, it's not clear to me that awk is even a run-time requirement - it only seems to be used in build scripts, but I could be overlooking something.)
There's no need for Ubuntu to ship two versions of awk by default. If the package doesn't need any specific gawk features, please remove the dependency. ** Affects: net-snmp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: net-snmp (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #557186 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=557186 ** Also affects: net-snmp (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=557186 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- [libsnmp-base] unnecessary dependency on gawk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567538 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to net-snmp in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
