In PHP 5.3.2-1ubuntu4 there's a bug concerning getPathInfo() on the SplFileInfo object. Instead of returning a new SplFileInfo object for the parent directory it returns a SplFileInfo object for the same file. The bug is reported and fixed upstream at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=48361 . This bug is a regression, PHP 5 under Karmic did not have this issue.
