wget was just a demonstration tool, but thank you for the notice. I repeated the test today with Firefox 3.6.3, though one cannot specify the SOCKS version in the GUI. network.proxy.socks_version was left at its default setting of '5'.
Running OpenSSH_5.3p1 Debian-3ubuntu4, OpenSSL 0.9.8k 25 Mar 2009 locally and OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 remotely (Debian stable) and using Firefox the test still fails for me.
