Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Kubuntu 10.10, KDE 4.5.1, samba 2:3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8

On my Kubuntu system I have set up Samba to share out two directories.

The problem is: when I boot (or reboot) the Kubuntu system and then try
to connect to these shares from my iMac, I get a "Connection failed"
error on the iMac. This error implies that the iMac can not at all
contact the Samba server.

However, right after booting the Kubuntu system the Samba daemon is in
fact running; to wit: "service smbd status" produces a message like
"smbd start/running, process 4313".

It is not until I restart the Samba daemon on the Kubuntu system with
"sudo service smbd restart" that the Samba server comes on-line and the
shares become available to the iMac. I tested this with two different
macs, one running Tiger, the other Leopard; I do not have a Windows PC.

This bug already existed in Lucid. It has been reported more than once
(can't find the bug numbers though...).
