I've gone back to windows.... turns out the lack of dialup networking in
linux distros had me up the proverbial creek w/o a paddle. Since my move
to a newer location, it's the only connection type I can get for a while
and windows bugs are something I am more used to.

Title:
  cannot install .deb packages

Status in Aptdaemon:
  Incomplete
Status in “clamav” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
any and all antivirus packages are refused, and each notes an unknown
user called "clamav". clamav was removed completely from synaptic due
to chronic bugginess and failure to update both gui and versions, each
and every time i ran it it said it was outdated (but not really,
according to research) yet there was no way to even run an update from
the checker. that app really sucks. after removing it, it now blocks
all attempts to install anything in synaptic as an unknown user?????
get this app off of your synaptic asap as it will screw up many more
  users!!! it has serious issues.
