Hi,
grub-legacy-ec2 is a very limited scope package. I'm not sure why you
would have had it installed in this situation.
I realize it shouldn't just fail, but It is not intended to support generally
managing a /boot/grub/menu.lst.
Is there a reason why you had it installed?
