Seems to indicate that the deb downloaded is corrupted, please try "sudo apt-get clean" http://raphaelhertzog.com/2011/06/27/deciphering-one-of-dpkgs-weirdest- errors-short-read-on-buffer-copy/ .. Currently marking invalid against samba, as it doesn't seem to be a bug against that package.
