Now it seems that do not work indeed. Prefered ifconfig eth0 down & ifconfig eth0 up" It appears that `/etc/init.d/networking restart` logged a message similar to Running $0 $1 is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces" in 2010, per https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=565187 (which I found via https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/24i9bd/what_is_the_deal_with_etcinitdnetworking_restart/) ** Affects: fortunes-ubuntu-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: The following tip may have become outdated: You can edit your network configuration in /etc/network/interfaces and enable your changes by issuing the command sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart.
