The OP knows very well how to halt a system as he posts a list of several ways of doing it. Each one valid. He is asking for a "preferred methond of shutdown of a Linux Sever". IMHO my answer tries to show that there isn't a preferred method. It depends on how those commands are implemented. Checking his distro's *man shutdown* is a good advice IMHO. :-) HTH - -- Hilario J.
