Thanks for your reply, this is exactly what I want. However, do-release-upgrade on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS reports "No new release found.", if there's a switch I can add or a configuration change I can make which will cause do-release-upgrade to "find" Ubuntu 18.04 LTS just tell me what to change. Or, if there's a different approach I can use, I'm certainly willing to do so, just tell me what it is.

The upgrader supports two upgrade paths: - upgrade to the next release which is still supported - upgrade to the next LTS release. We never support skipping an LTS release when upgrading. And 16.10, 17.04, and 17.10 have reached end of life.
