I believe too that this was the case. However, users such as me might require
network-manager due to only having 3G mobile broadband connection, which AIUI
only work with NM.

Currently it's quite a bit of pain to make that switch for a regular user.

I suspect that's a bug. I'll see if I have time to test this tonight.
