The first I always do is switching from the default double-click behaviour to single click, to start apps and to open files.
Nobody should argue against it by mentioning Windows compatibility for newbies, since this is what I also do for Windows installs, it's not related to the used operating system. Single clicks IMO are much better for a fast and intuitive workflow. YMMV!
