Erik:

Before the command "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart", I use one of this commands:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-desktop
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

I use this to over-write (I had the best result with the second). But
remember: this is provisional way to get the graphical environment (if
you cann ' t stop working). I do not know the definitive solution, but
I tried different ways until I arrived to have that PC reasonably
working . If you try this and tell us you results. Good Luck, Rafael.
