You could add nofail to your options in fstab, so if the drive should
be available, it would get mounted during startup and if it shouldn't
be available startup automatically continues after a while.

However, there's some setting, somewhere, that doesn't require to do
this by adding an option to fstab, but at the moment I don't remember
it.

In short, there are several ways to set up the behaviour, Google is
your friend.
