Chris and Chris, thanks!

Just so I got it clear in my own mind ....

When a major Distro is released all associated packages are frozen at that
point within the repositories until the next major release. The exception
being where there is a security flaw or bug in that particular package. If
the user wants to grab a newer version of that package, they will need to
get it and maintain the subsequent updates themselves .

I'm fairly sure that's right, so next logical question is with the Live CDs,
how often are those images updated to reflect the flaws and bugs found in
the current version of Ubuntu

My local LUG is making plans to go on the offensive as far as Linux is
concerned in the local area. Instead of getting the proper distro CDs and
have them hanging around, we'd set up a central lappie with the LUGs
favourite distro's on it so that we could burn Live CDs as and when required
and always be sure that it was the latest.

Any released version (i.e. Feisty/7.04) will only get backports.
Basically we're talking security updates or critical bugs that are
likely to effect a lot of users.

For new stable packages, you will need to wait until the next release
(Gutsy), or download a package/the source for the new stable app
version.

Kris
