Shutdown machine and restart, booting from the Ubuntu CD. Once it's loaded click on the "Install" icon, make sure your new slave drive is selected as the install destination and sit back and let Ubuntu do it all for you. It will, eventually, ask you if you want it to put a link to XP on grub (or similar), just confirm you do and all will be sorted. There's no reason at all why you could need to "mess around" or even touch grub... it should be automatic.
