Using the command line,

sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and change the BusID line to read

BusID   "PCI:1:0:0"

That should get you into a gui when you startx or reboot (whichever you 
prefer)

Once you have a working X display, then you may like to look at the driver. 
You are using vesa - which is a good basic, but if you want clever stuff - 
accelerated graphics, compiz or whatever, then you will need the proprietry 
driver.
