fwiw, when idle and with a sensible CPU scheduler, my Core2Duo runs at 31 degrees. My guess is Matthew was right with guess 2 - I think the BIOS will know nothing of fancypants cooling, so will run the CPU at full speed. I'm not sure if it would climb up to 60 quickly enough to see it in the bios though.
