So if squid is running on a server which is connected to the internet and all the computers connect to squid proxy on (for example)port 8000, is squid sharing the internet connection or not?

Greetings,

Quick question:

Can squid proxy server also be used to share an internet connection over
a small office network?

Hi Michael, that's not really what it's used for (although, it can be
used in conjunction with NAT, to speed up popular websites).

You will probably want to use NAT / IP Masquerading:
