Hi Andy - I get decent performance by installing the appropriate
codecs (ubuntu-restricted-extras) and then mplayer and it's firefox
plugin (mozilla-mplayer *I think*). I can then watch BBC News 24
clips, stream BBC radio without the need to install RealPlayer   :)

There are several other methods for achieving what you want, which I'm
sure people will provide, but I like this method because there's no
need for additional proprietary blobs of code - everything you need is
in the ubuntu repositories
