The problem is still that update-grub is failing. Did you try the
changes to /boot/grub/menu.lst that I suggested in another thread?

There are ways of bypassing update-grub so that the packages will
install, but you would then have to fix your grub configuration
manually to point to the new kernels (and do that again every time you
get a kernel update) so it would be better to fix the problems
update-grub is having.
