Thanks Neil - that helped quite a lot. I've done the usual back-ups, making use of the really useful Live user mode.
I've not actually gone for a reinstall YET - still trying to pull together as much good advice as I can before taking the plunge! I'm already feeling better informed though - thanks to those who have been kind enough to respond to my appeals. Any further hints or tips would be much appreciated. By the way - does anyone have thoughts on ClamTk as a virus checker or PiTiVi as a video editor?
