Hmm it shouldn't be on your desktop -are you referring to your Ubuntu dtop or the VM one?

Open up the autorun.inf file in Notepad - it'll tell you which file is meant to start up automatically (I can't for the life of me remember which one it is).

If you need any more help let me know.

Ok, well I tried what you said and it doesnt give me an option for autoplay, lots of other options, but not that one. Have been looking round inside it and its got both 32bit and 64bit installers in there. Are we talking about the sdame things? The thing I have on the desktop is VBoxAdditions.
