I've just spent a frustrating and fruitless two whole days trying to get
my new Wacom Intuos4 graphics tablet working in Ubuntu. I've tried with
Hardy and Jaunty. I've pored over the long, intricate, tangled and
opaque threads on the forums; I've googled to distraction; I've done
the wiki to death (and got sick of its telling me that 'your Wacom
tablet should now just work with Jaunty' - aaarrrggh! And launchpad is
full of unresolved issues.)

I bought the Intuos4 because I watched - with my own eye's - Rolf
Steinort using it with GIMP (http://meetthegimp.org/episode-101-tablets/)

In Hardy, lsusb shows the wacom as present; I think (??) there's a
driver installed; the xorg.conf file sets up the wacom according to the
Xorg.0.log; but the /dev/input/wacom that xorg.conf calls does not exist.

If any of you good folk have actually got a Wacom Intuos4 working with
Ubuntu, I would dearly love to hear how you did it, before I turn mine
into the most expensive rectangular frisby you've ever seen!

TIA

mac
