OK.  I've installed the linuxwacom-0.8.3-4 driver.  There's a bit more 
to it than the German description implies, and you get missing 
dependencies during the ./configure - make process.  So I followed the 
procedure here:

but substituted  linuxwacom-0.8.3-4 where the thread uses the older 
driver.  So now the Inuos is working -- but like a mouse, not a graphics 
tablet.  A bit more hacking needed, I fear.

Oh, yes - and I just had a pretty comprehensive crash, which looks from 
the logs to have been a fatal X error.  :-(

Working again now, but for how long???

Thanks for your interest and help, Norman.  I think I'm sort of 
stumbling along in roughly the right direction.
