My personal opinion is that its doubtful you'll have problems with a monitor in 
this day and age. Maybe have a look on Scan.co.uk or similar I was looking at a 
19inch widescreen for under £100. I've had several flavours of LCD monitor 
hooked up to both Ubuntu and Windows and my only issues have been with the 
video card not the monitor.
