You do NOT need any CD to connect to a mail server or any Internet service all Internet protocols are open. The CD just Brands a windows based PC to the provider you are with. Make sure in your mail server settings that you have a valid POP3 or SMTP server for BT.
You can use nslookup to find a valid entry for your provider or just ask them.
