Yeah, Valve confirmed Steam for Linux (specifically Ubuntu) a while ago. I think I read somewhere they're aiming to have an early version out later this year, and are also porting some of their games, and possibly their Source Engine.
I share mostly the same opinions as mentioned in the interesting little article by Richard Stallman (https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/nonfree-games.en.html). It will be good, for people like me who already use Linux mainly, but are forced to use Windows for games. It will also be good to bring some publicity and new people to Linux. However, it will potentially have repercussions that may change things in Linux that are currently reasons to use it.
